Colorado Public Radio is covering a bill in the works at the state Capitol that would start operating an insurance program in the next few years. All workers would have a regular premium, between $1 and $10 a week, deducted from their paychecks. They then could apply to have a percentage of their income replaced while they take leave to care for a new baby, sick relative, or their own long-term illness.
The program would guarantee that employees at any Colorado business, no matter how small, could take up to three months of job-protected leave in a year.
